The 450 class has arrived at Southwick and Moto 1 at Round 6 of the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross Championship delivered everything that makes sand track racing so compelling. The Wick 338 in Massachusetts is one of a kind — and the premier class put on a show in the deep New England sand that had the Southwick faithful on their feet.
450 Class Moto 1 — Southwick
Sand racing in the 450 class is a spectacle. The big bikes dig deep, the ruts develop fast, and the physical demands on the riders are extreme from the very first lap. Southwick sorts the field quickly — riders who are comfortable in the sand pull away early while others fight the conditions all moto long. Moto 1 was no different and the racing at the front of the 450 class was aggressive, physical, and entertaining throughout.
Luca Coenen is a name that belongs in the Southwick conversation. With a background in European sand racing the conditions at The Wick 338 are familiar territory — and the 450 class gave him a stage to show what that sand experience looks like at the premier level. Keep an eye on Coenen this weekend.

The 450 Championship in the Sand
Six rounds in and the 2026 450 championship is at a critical stage. Southwick is the kind of round that can flip the standings — sand specialists gain ground while others lose it, and the points swings here can be significant. Moto 1 gave the first indication of how the title picture will look after a day of racing in Massachusetts.
