The 450 class has arrived at the 2026 SuperMotocross World Championship Playoffs and Moto 1 in Columbus, Ohio delivered the kind of premier class racing that the SMX format was built for. Coming off one of the most dramatic outdoor season finales in recent memory the 450 riders brought all of that energy and intensity into the Columbus arena — and the hybrid track delivered a first moto that had the Ohio crowd on their feet from start to finish.
450 Class Moto 1 — SMX Columbus
The SuperMotocross track in Columbus is a unique test for the 450 class. The hybrid layout demands a skill set that goes beyond what either supercross or outdoor motocross requires on its own — precision through the tight stadium sections, raw speed and physicality through the motocross elements, and the ability to string it all together at full 450 pace without losing rhythm or composure. The riders who won championships this summer did it on very different tracks — the SMX format now asks them to prove themselves all over again.
With the Lawrence brothers fresh off one of the closest outdoor title fights in AMA history, Columbus is the first chance to see how that rivalry carries over into the SMX Playoffs. Hunter Lawrence, Jett Lawrence, Jorge Prado, Haiden Deegan, and Chase Sexton — the full depth of the premier class is here and none of them came to Columbus just to make up the numbers.

The Road to the SMX World Championship
Columbus is the opening round of the SMX Playoffs and every result here feeds directly into the standings that will determine who lines up for the SMX World Championship finale. The format is unforgiving — there are no easy rounds in the Playoffs and a bad night in Columbus can put a rider on the back foot before the series has barely begun. The 450 class knows this and Moto 1 showed exactly how seriously every rider on that gate is taking the opportunity in front of them.
